Registration for the Fietselfstedentocht 2026 has closed.

Registration for the Fietselfstedentocht 2026 has closed. In total, more than 23,000 cyclists registered for participation in the popular Frisian cycling tour. As the maximum number of participants is set at 15,000, a lottery was held on 22 December 2025.

The Fietselfstedentocht will take place on Monday, 25 May 2026. This will be the 89th edition of the event, which was first organised in 1912. The tour therefore has a history spanning 114 years.

The strong interest highlights the enduring appeal of the Fietselfstedentocht. Each year, cyclists from across the Netherlands and abroad travel to Friesland to ride the classic route along the eleven Frisian cities. The combination of sporting challenge, history and Frisian hospitality makes the event one of the most popular cycling tours in the country.

Participants who were selected in the lottery have now been informed by email. Cyclists who were not selected will also receive notification. The organisation emphasises that the lottery is necessary to ensure the event can be organised safely, manageably and to a high standard. After this phase, it will still be possible to obtain a starting place through the official supply-and-demand system.

In the coming months, the organisation will continue preparations for the 2026 edition, working closely with volunteers, municipalities, emergency services and partners.
